School of Business at PSU Featured in Princeton Review's "Best 143 Business Schools"
(Portland , OR – October 27, 2004) The School of Business at Portland State University is one of the nation’s most outstanding business schools, according to the 2005 Edition of The Princeton Review’s “Best 143 Business Schools”, a recently release student opinion-driven guidebook.
"Every school we profile in this book offers students an outstanding MBA education, yet each one is distinctive in its academic programs and campus environment,” said Robert Franek, Princeton Review Vice President of Guidebook Publishing who oversaw the selection of schools for this year’s “Best” book.
The two-page descriptive profiles in “Best 143 Business Schools” cover each school’s academics, admission, student life and campus environment, and career and recruiting activities. The Princeton Review survey asked students over 40 questions about themselves, their career plans, and their schools’ academics, student body and campus life. The book’s complete ranking lists and student comments are posted at (www.PrincetonReview.com ).
"The fact that our School was listed shows again what a great experience we offer to our students,” noted School of Business Dean Scott Dawson. “Our downtown Portland location, our strong ties to the business community and its leaders, stand-out courses and faculty, and the options available to study make us unique and highly valued by our students.”
Each listed school’s profile is laced with comments from students surveyed at the school about their experiences. The PSU profile include student comments about courses that "really deliver”, an MBA program that “puts strong emphasis on teamwork and interpersonal communication and conflict-management skills”, and a faculty mix that is “a good balance between tenured professors to teach the more academic subjects and the adjunct professors to topics where business experience is critical to teaching the subject.” "Strong ties to the business community” and “great networking events” are what appeal most to PSU’s MBA students, according to the school’s profile. Overall, MBA students found that “the school brings together excellent people for a great school experience.”
Princeton Review’s Franek added that the value of the ranking is that it is student opinion that drives the listing of the schools. “There is no one best business school overall. For this book we developed comprehensive profiles of the schools and compiled ranking lists in multiple categories to help students choose the best business school for them.”
