To promote an effective and efficient work force in state government through a career-related learning program that provides opportunities and experiences for all students and educators throughout the State of Oregon.

School-to-work is a teaching and learning strategy to help students understand and explore the relationship between school and work and prepare them to meet the challenges of the future. The School-to-Work initiative brings together education reform, workforce development, and economic development to create a system. School-to-Work programs link school-based learning to work-based learning based on the realization that work-based and contextual teaching/learning is an extremely effective teaching method. |

Most of us are familiar with the changing academic standards in Oregon’s schools today. Most of us are not familiar with the Career-Related Learning Standards (CRLS), though. The academic standards and requirements for career pathways, or focused areas of study, are reasons for the CRLS. These changing requirements are leading to large numbers of students coming to the workplace for career-related learning experiences. Through our state network of Agency School-to-Work Coordinators, students are placed appropriately and state employees have information to ensure meaningful and successful placements.
