Indications for Use

The CompressAR® System is indicated for use to provide hemostasis of the femoral vascular access site during and following catheterization or cannulation procedures. Additional caution is recommended when the CompressAR System is used on patients who have had previous iliac grafts or stents, or where compression times are expected to exceed one hour.

Certain precautions should be taken when using the CompressAR System:

  • The CompressAR System should be applied by a physician, nurse, or technician experienced with transfemoral catheterization.
  • Patients
    • Hypertensive patients -- require greater compression pressure than normotensive patients.
    • Obese patients -- precise location of the femoral artery proximal to the wound site prior to sheath removal is important; the Arm and Base may be oriented diagonally to the patient, with the Arm aimed at the opposite shoulder, to minimize lateral Arm slippage caused by the abdominal bulk pressing against the Arm.
    • Thin patients -- external rotation of the patient's foot is important to properly position the inguinal ligament.
  • Clinicians should not leave the patient unattended while the CompressAR is being used.
